Family Business Center
Focusing on Today’s Business Issues
Through the Lens of the Family-Owned Enterprise
For more than 45 years, Blackman Kallick has worked with a large number of the family-owned businesses that make up the core of Chicago's economy. Many of these families have been with us that entire time and we have often had the privilege of working with two, and even three or four generations of leadership.
While it's easy to identify and address the obvious issues, our experience and knowledge base enables us to see the world through the lens of the family business. We are therefore able to identify and confront the more subtle but usually more significant issues unique to the complexities and passions associated with family-owned enterprises.
It is upon this foundation that we have established the Blackman Kallick Family Business Center. The Center's mission is to more fully integrate the breadth and depth of our diverse family business expertise into all the services we provide to family-owned businesses. Whether our assistance is related to taxes, estate planning, succession, operational enhancement, strategic planning or mergers and acquisitions, the common thread through all our work is our ability to understand the impact of business decisions on the family, and vice-versa.
Developing Real-World Solutions to Current and Timeless Challenges
Working within the firm, the Blackman Kallick Family Business Center identifies and disseminates to our over-200 professionals the best practices in a wide variety of areas, including:
- Immediate day-to-day tax issues;
- Long-term strategic issues;
- Intergenerational and intrafamily issues; and
- Transfer issues, including estate taxes, valuations and funding strategies.
Our premise has always been that the better we, as a firm, understand the challenges and concerns of our family business clients, the better the outcomes from the services we deliver.
It is a principle that has led directly to the longevity and success of our family-owned business clients. It is the foundation for our Family Business Center.
