Partner in Charge, Manufacturing and Distribution Practice

Paul Oetter is Partner in Charge of Blackman Kallick’s Manufacturing and Distribution Practice. For almost 30 years, he has served as a business advisor and engagement team leader for his clients, which include a wide variety of privately held, midsize manufacturing companies as well as service-based companies such as engineering and technology consulting firms, food processors, chemical processors and wholesale buyers and distributors.

He believes one of his greatest strengths is team building. As engagement partner for his clients, he creates unique teams of professionals to help clients reach specific goals whether it’s for auditing financial statements, managing a due diligence project prior to an investment or developing purchase contracts and purchase price allocations. He says the best time for clients to contact him is before they embark on critical projects. This allows him to act as a sounding board and bring his clients ideas that balance the needs of the entire organization, from sales to finance and operations.

“We strive to provide our clients with extraordinary service. When you establish that kind of relationship with your clients, you tend to be the first phone call they make when they need assistance with a challenging project.”

Paul and his team provide assurance services, tax compliance and planning services and consulting services including cost accounting analysis, business process improvements, strategic planning, transaction structuring and transaction due diligence to their clients.

“Ultimately it comes down to fully understanding our clients so we can bring them valuable ideas that help them grow and sustain their businesses. We need to provide the right strategies when they ask, 'What do you think I should do here?’"

Paul was born in Joliet and grew up in Lockport, Illinois, which as he says, “ … was a blue collar town and most of my neighbors worked for the oil refinery.” This is where Paul had his first glimpse of the manufacturing industry. He received his BS, with honors, from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1981 and now lives in Willowbrook.

Paul is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, the Tooling & Manufacturing Association and the Precision Metalforming Association. In addition, he is a former member of the AICPA’s International Issues Committee and the former President of the United Way of Hinsdale Area.

Paul enjoys golf, boating, spending time with his wife and two daughters and studying history, especially of places he has recently visited.
