Clifford B. Shapiro

CPA

Partner, Not-for-Profit

Cliff is an Audit Partner in Blackman Kallick’s Not-for-Profit Practice. He serves foundations, social service agencies, professional associations, and arts and cultural organizations.

His skills and responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring the planning and administration of audit and accounting engagements for many of the firm’s largest not-for-profit clients
  • Supervising OMB Circular A-133, or “single audits,” and HUD audits
  • Advising not-for-profit clients on proper accounting for alternative investments and regulatory reporting requirements

Cliff ensures his clients have the information they need to prepare accurate budgets and make appropriate decisions about investments and other organizational strategies.

He also is sensitive to the vital role that proper accounting plays in not-for-profit fundraising. Audit adjustments and management letter comments can raise questions with foundations, government agencies, banks, and donors. That’s why Cliff reviews board and committee minutes to identify issues that should be addressed prior to the start of the audit; it’s also why he works closely with clients as they approach the single-audit threshold to ensure they understand the additional testing that will be required.

Cliff takes a deep interest in his clients and their missions. As a result, his clients enjoy working with him and call him whenever they need someone to verify an accounting treatment, or simply to act as a sounding board regarding a new idea, accounting related or not, for the organization.

Credentials and Professional Involvement

Cliff received his BS in accounting from Northern Illinois University and is a member of the AICPA and Illinois CPA Society.

A featured presenter for CPAs for the Public Interest, Cliff also enjoys giving back to the not-for-profit community through speaking on topics such as alternative investments and compliance requirements of OMB Circular A-133.
