Blackman Kallick Sponsors Chicago Cares 2009 Serve-a-thon
On Saturday, June 13, 2009, the staff, friends and family of Blackman Kallick had a great time volunteering at the 16th Annual Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon. This was the fifth year that Blackman has sponsored and participated in this worthwhile event for the purposes of supporting Chicago Cares and making a contribution to the city of Chicago.
With over 8,000 volunteers from organizations throughout the city and suburbs, the Serve-a-thon is the largest single day of community service in Chicago. Blackman is proud to have had 54 volunteers, including friends and family, join in the event.
This year, Blackman’s team project involved painting murals and designing mosaics at Chicago International Charter School—Irving Park campus (CICS Irving Park) located at 3820 N. Spaulding in Chicago. CICS Irving Park currently serves 349 students from grades K-5 and continues to add additional grades each year with the ultimate goal of becoming a K-8 school. Director Amy Torres and Assistant Director Janet Zaccariello personally welcomed Chicago Cares and Blackman’s volunteers on Saturday and expressed their heartfelt appreciation for our help. Parents and students of the school were also present, and our volunteers were touched to receive many handmade cards, thank-you notes and letters from the students, expressing their excitement over our volunteer efforts and their pride in their school.
The Serve-a-thon is the primary annual fundraiser for Chicago Cares, a not-for-profit organization, which is also a client of Blackman. Chicago Cares develops approximately 200 hands-on group volunteer projects each month serving children, adults, senior citizens, the homeless, environmental causes and more. If you would like to learn more about volunteering (and having a great time) with this organization or would like to make a contribution to their worthwhile efforts, please visit their Web site at www.chicagocares.org or call 312-780-0800.
