Stephen Piwnicki

CPA

Audit Senior Manager

A Senior Manager in Blackman Kallick’s Financial Services Practice, Stephen provides audit and attestation services for financial service companies, with a unique focus on those engaged in consumer lending and commercial leasing. His ideas and insights about computer-assisted audit techniques have realized time- and cost-efficiencies for our clients and helped the firm further streamline our audit processes.

Stephen’s skills and responsibilities include:

  • Managing financial statement audits of financial services clients.
  • Evaluating compliance with audit and accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements that affect the financial services industry.
  • Enhancing efficiencies through the use of computer-assisted audit techniques, in particular Interactive Data Extraction and Analysis (IDEA).
  • Providing best-practices in the areas of accounting for alternative investments and commercial leasing.
  • Leading the firm’s Environmental and Community Outreach (ECO) Committee, which focuses on reducing the firm’s environmental impact through education and action while working in and with our local community.

With the increasing scrutiny and intensity of regulations facing the financial services industry, it is essential that financial services organizations work with an auditor who truly knows the industry. Because Stephen is 100% focused on serving financial services companies, he has a deep understanding of the unique challenges his clients face. One of these challenges is the 2010 Accounting Standards Update requiring additional disclosures relating to credit quality and allowance for credit losses. Stephen helps his clients interpret how these additional disclosures will affect them and how they respond to risk.

In addition to his client-service work, Stephen also spearheaded standardization and automation of Blackman Kallick’s audit procedures to ensure the most efficient, cost-effective audits for all clients of the firm.

He also taps into his passion for sustainable living by leading the firm’s Environmental and Community Outreach (ECO) Committee. The committee strives to rethink its approach to conducting business through evaluating its supply chain, creating innovative solutions to operational processes, and working with our community.

Stephen received his BS in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
