Paul is the Director of Blackman Kallick’s national Healthcare Services practice.
His clients benefit from his wide range of healthcare experience, including working with hospitals, hospice, home health, blood centers, senior living communities, medical/dental groups, Federally Qualified Health Centers, associations, health insurance plans, as well as ancillary providers.
Paul has experience analyzing complex accounting transactions on both sides of the provider/payer transaction. As a result, he has a thorough understanding of healthcare processes and the reimbursement cycle, which lends him a keen eye for opportunities to increase efficiencies and profitability.
Working with the other professionals on the Healthcare Services team, Paul helps clients improve their business processes through:
- Financial statement audits of for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare entities
- Fraud risk assessment and internal audit
- Internal control reviews for newly acquired or satellite hospitals
- Benchmarking reports and corporate dashboards
- Business valuations, due diligence and litigation support
- Analysis and preparation of federal and state income tax returns as well as tax consulting and planning

Immediately prior to joining Blackman Kallick, Paul led a regional healthcare practice for another CPA firm. He brings more than 18 years of accounting, audit and consulting experience, with 12 years focused exclusively on healthcare entities, their providers and stakeholders.
Credentials and Professional Involvement
Paul’s passion for protecting his clients from fraud is evident not only in his efforts for clients, but also in his commitment to furthering the development of his peers in the healthcare and accounting industries via public speaking and publishing.
An active member of the healthcare community, Paul serves on the Membership Committee of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and presented a session at the 2010 Western Michigan HFMA conference on “Fraud Risk Assessment and the Financial Statement Audit.” He also has presented on “Hot Topics in the Healthcare Audit & Accounting Environment” to the Michigan Association of CPAs and co-authored an article for Becker’s ASC Review on “Combating Surgery Center Fraud With Effective Risk Assessment.”
Paul serves on the Board of Trustees of the Michigan Blood Centers and also led a local United Way campaign for six years.
A member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Michigan Association of CPAs, Paul earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Andrews University and a Master of Science in Accountancy from Indiana University.
Paul and his wife, a Shakespeare professor at Andrews University, are ardent supporters of the arts and frequent the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
