Paul D. Smith, Jr.

CPA, MSA

Director, Healthcare Services

Paul is the Director of Blackman Kallick’s national Healthcare Services  practice.

His clients benefit from his wide range of healthcare experience, including working with hospitals, hospice, home health, blood centers, senior living communities, medical/dental groups, Federally Qualified Health Centers, associations, health insurance plans, as well as ancillary providers.

Paul has experience analyzing complex accounting transactions on both sides of the provider/payer transaction. As a result, he has a thorough understanding of healthcare processes and the reimbursement cycle, which lends him a keen eye for opportunities to increase efficiencies and profitability.

Working with the other professionals on the Healthcare Services team, Paul helps clients improve their business processes through:

  • Financial statement audits of for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare entities
  • Fraud risk assessment and internal audit
  • Internal control reviews for newly acquired or satellite hospitals
  • Benchmarking reports and corporate dashboards
  • Business valuations, due diligence and litigation support
  • Analysis and preparation of federal and state income tax returns as well as tax consulting and planning

By being closely attuned to the full scope of healthcare industry services, Paul can help increase the value of any engagement your healthcare organization requires.

Immediately prior to joining Blackman Kallick, Paul led a regional healthcare practice for another CPA firm. He brings more than 18 years of accounting, audit and consulting experience, with 12 years focused exclusively on healthcare entities, their providers and stakeholders.
