An Audit Senior in Blackman Kallick’s Insurance Group, Michael specializes in financial statement audits for property and casualty insurance companies, self-insured risk pools, and employee benefit plans.

Michael brings valuable perspective to his clients’ accounting and operational challenges by:

  • Supervising fieldwork for financial-statement audits
  • Preparing financial statements and related disclosures in accordance with Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP) and US generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP)
  • Auditing employee benefit plans to validate compliance with Department of Labor regulations and retirement plan documents
  • Assessing risks of fraud and misstatement and presenting process-improvement recommendations
  • Presenting financial statement reports and internal control recommendations to audit committees

With a keen attention to detail, Michael evaluates the day-to-day operations of his clients to improve efficiencies and strengthen controls. His experience auditing companies of all sizes gives him insight into the processes that will help the organization reach the next level of growth.

Michael stays abreast of new SSAP pronouncements and other accounting standards and works closely with his client’s management team to help them understand and incorporate those changes into their financial reporting. Drawing on his in-depth understanding of his clients’ financials, Michael is well equipped to perform both financial statement and employee benefit plan audits. When he performs both engagements, the client benefits from added efficiency and greater insights into the company’s unique situation and needs.

After spending seven years serving the insurance and employee benefit plan industries as an auditor with another national accounting firm, Michael joined Blackman to be part of one of the largest teams of insurance-focused accounting professionals in the country. He enjoys sharing with his current clients best practices gleaned from his experiences serving a diverse range of insurance-industry companies, brokers, and agents, with the ultimate goal of finding ways to improve their operations.
