Audit — Staff II

The Staff II accountant performs an array of auditing and accounting assignments, some more complex than those given to the Staff I accountant, under the guidance and supervision of more experienced staff.  The Staff II accountant begins to work independently and may occasionally supervise Staff I accountants or interns.  As the Staff II accountant gains experience and proficiency, he or she may be given more difficult assignments and greater responsibility, including some of the duties of Senior accountant. Performance is judged on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, doing a thorough job while meeting time constraints as appropriate, positive attitude, strong work ethic and the desire to help.

Job Applicant Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Accounting or an undergraduate degree with at least 30 hours of accounting courses
  • Ability to sit for CPA exam, if not already a CPA
  • One to three years of experience in public accounting
  • Proficiency with computer and spreadsheet software
  • Familiarity with accounting principles, auditing and ethical standards, and income taxes 
  • Demonstrates willingness to extend efforts beyond the immediate demands of the assignment and to accept new responsibilities
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and presentation skills

Other Requirements

  • Frequent same-day travel for work at client offices, meetings and seminars
  • Frequent overtime required January through May, and occasional overtime throughout the year

Tax — Manager / Senior Manager

The Manager / Senior Manager will be responsible for managing multiple diverse tax engagements simultaneously and serve as the liaison between the Partner, client and staff, and maintain communication with the client. This individual will schedule and staff engagements and coordinate engagement workflow. He / She is responsible for staff development and training, as well as developing and cultivating business relationships to generate new business for the Firm.  The Senior Manager performs tax research and shares knowledge with staff, and makes decisions on routine and non-routine accounting and tax matters.

Job Applicant Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Accounting
  • CPA, Masters in Taxation, LLM in Taxation, or JDA 
  • Minimum of 5 years in public accounting or a combination of corporate and public accounting experience
  • Demonstrated progression in complexity, scope, and number of engagements managed 
  • Broad exposure to manufacturing tax and / or international tax is strongly preferred, but not required
  • Must be eager to work on a variety of tax issues and not specialize in one particular area
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and presentation skills

Tax — SALT Senior Manager / Practice Leader

The Senior Manager / Practice Leader state and local tax professional will be responsible for the delivery of a full range of tax services for multiple clients in a wide variety of industries.  Responsibilities include interacting closely with clients to provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise; developing and managing staff, working closely with partners and staff on client management, practice development and business development activities; and formulating and delivering innovative tax planning and tax savings strategies.

Tax — SALT Professional

Blackman Kallick has a full-time opportunity within its SALT (State and Local Tax) specialty tax practice. The position requires wide ranging state income tax and franchise tax experience with closely-held, private businesses. Experience with multi-state flow through entities is required. Sales / use tax experience is a plus. Initially, about 80% of the work will be compliance, with an expectation that the individual will develop or expand their tax consulting skills over time.  

This person will work directly with staff, partners and clients, and is expected to network externally and build business relationships that will lead to business development over time. Opportunities abound within the tax practice and firm for responsibility, leadership and advancement. Day travel within the Chicago-area to clients and potential clients and some out of town travel are required.

The primary requirements for this position include experience with:

  • Conducting primary and secondary reviews of state and local returns
  • Handling multiple state audits
  • Skills with nexus studies
  • Management of voluntary disclosure process
  • Prior experience with federal income tax compliance issues is preferred
  • Improving best practice procedures and training for staff
  • Experience in training clients to record and gather the information necessary to meet state tax filing obligations 
  • Research in both RIA Checkpoint and CCH Intellinet and preparing related tax memos
  • Ability to consult / educate client in various state and local issues

The successful candidate has:

  • Dedication to quality client service which requires direct client interaction
  • Six or more years of state and local income tax compliance experience

Blackman Kallick has a full-time management opportunity within its executive 1040 practice. The position requires wide ranging federal and state individual income tax experience.  Many of our clients own flow-through businesses and require interaction with business tax planning.  We utilize scanning technology and are a paperless office.  Our executive tax practice will also assist with trust tax planning and compliance issues.

  • Marketing and Sales:
    • Bring in new business by effectively marketing to new potential clients via inside and outside sales techniques.
    • Set up client appointments to introduce and present priority features and benefits and clerical services to gain new business.
    • Submit proposals to clients including terms and rates for generation of new business.
    • Manage any and all staffing needs of clients and operational requests. 
  • Previous Experience:
    • Bachelors degree and specific industry experience is a plus
    • Minimum of 4 years experience in recruiting
