A Survey Reveals Continued Increase in Demand for Nonprofit Services

A recent survey conducted by the Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) of more than 1900 nonprofit leaders nationwide revealed that continuing increases in demand for services have spread many organizations thin. NFF’s “2011 State of the Sector Survey” found that nonprofits have seen significant increases in demand for services over the past three years. In addition, the increase in demand for services is expected to continue throughout 2011.

Eighty-five percent of the leaders surveyed expected to see an increase in service demand in 2011; however, only 46% expect to be able to meet the increased demand for services. Organizations that provide critical services to those in need are seeing an even larger increase in the demand for their services, but less than 40% expect to be able to fully meet the demand in 2011.

Although organizations face the challenge of increased demand, many continue to honor their commitment to the people they serve. Fifty-five percent of the organizations added or expanded programs during the past 12 months and 49% increased the number of individuals they served in that same period. The survey also indicated that this trend is expected to continue throughout 2011.
