A Four Day Workweek?
Pat McKune, CFO at M. Holland Company, recently forwarded us a link to a blog on the benefits of a four day workweek. You can view this blog entry online at www.theoildrum.com/node/2996.
While neither Pat nor we are advocating this concept, the blog does raise some interesting thoughts. The four day workweek was recently in the news, since Utah is now implementing it for selected agencies.
Though some of the math does not work, the underlying points provide interesting food for thought. That said, there are ways other than the four day workweek to encourage energy conservation among your co-workers and employees. There are also other means for encouraging your team to spend quality time with their families. (As we move into July, are you encouraging people to take their vacations?) Let us know what you think about the four day workweek.
Quote of the Month
Finally, as we have just passed Independence Day, we think it appropriate to share with you a quote from one of the Founding Fathers:
"For I agree with you that there is a natural aristocracy among men. The grounds of this are virtue and talents."
– Thomas Jefferson, October 28, 1813
Sincerely,
Barry S. Cain, former Managing Director, Strategic Services
